Operational excellence in Global Ports

Operational excellence in Global Ports

Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBSIMG_0032) visited Rotterdam with 70 participants as part of their Global Executive Development Programme (GEDP) on the 3rd of September. Participants learned all about Operational Excellence from Prof. Rob Zuidwijk, Endowed Professor of Ports in Global Networks at RSM Erasmus University, at the Port of Rotterdam.

20150903_101741The lecture took place at a VIP deck overlooking the extended area of the Port: Maasvlakte 2. While the lecture took place the highest cranes in the world, with a height of 127,5 meters, were in operation. Furthermore the Cosco Portugal with 14 thousand containers (13350 TEU= Twenty feet Equivalent Unit to be precize) was leaving Maasvlakte 2, which created a spectacular view.

20150903_115539 After the insightful presentation about Global Ports, the participants enjoyed a professional guided tour through the Europe Container Terminal (ECT), the leading and most advanced container terminal operator in Europe, and had a chance to see the created new land with their own eyes. As one of the participants stated: “Rotterdam is the school example of Global Ports regaring operational excellence and it is a must for other stakeholders in the world to learn from this”.
