On the 10th of April 22 Danish Master students, enrolled in MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management aSuLo university Aarhus master students study tour supply chain logisticst Aarhus School of Business and Social Science (Aarhus BBS University), arrived at Tocumen Airport, ready to start their educational journey in Panama, one of the greatest playgrounds for logistic students. Today Panama has become one of the most important shipping and logistics hubs of the Americas.

On the 11th of April, after a good night of sleep and recovering from the jetlag, the students were invited by Philips for a company visit and presentation by Laura Humbeeck. As an experienced manager in Supply Chain with more than 13 years of experience in fast moving consumer goods, Laura kicked off the first company visit fantastically.

On Wednesday 12th of April, after having a three-course lunch in the historic district of Panama City, the group was welcomed by Beverly Leon at PSA Panama International. The unique and strategic location of Panama represents an excellent opportunity to develop networks of ports dedicated to any type of cargo for both national and international markets. The port that the students visited, Balboa Ports, is the number one transshipment terminal in Latin America  and was therefore the place to be for our Logistics and Supply Chain students.

From large balconies, you can watch as the lock gates are opened and closed for ships to start or complete their journey through the Panama Canal.

Recharged after the weekend off the students prepared themselves for an exciting day involving 3 company visits! Their first meeting was with Herman Hanssen, founder of the management consultancy firm Elyzian. Elyzian is a LEAN-company which focus is on elevating business performances through operational excellence. Herman, with his extensive business experience, was an excellent candidate to teach the students everything about LEAN, operational excellence and providing best-in-class customer experience.

The second meeting was with Global Supply Chain Division manager Carla Navarro of Caterpillar, who hosted the group at the Caterpillar office! Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.

And if the day was not already inspirational enough the group had another company visit scheduled in the program: a visit to Maersk Line. Maersk Line is the world’s largest container shipping company, known for their reliable, flexible and eco-efficient services.

What a knowledge, new insights and best practices that our students can take home with them! As almost graduated this was an educational experience that hopefully will inspire the students in choosing their future careers paths.
